Responsorial Psalms are ancient songs of praise and prayer and are an important and often musical part of the Liturgy of the Word in Christian and Jewish services. The root of the word 'psalm' is Greek for 'songs sung to a harp.' Many of the 150 psalms in the Old Testament Book of Psalms are attributed to David.
Typical implementations involve the accompanist playing an introduction (usually the refrain), the cantor sings the refrain, followed by the assembly singing the refrain a third time. Then the verse, refrain, verse, refrain cycle is repeated until there are no more verses.

| Psalm 146 Refrain:
Lord, come and save us. Lord, come and save us.
Lord, come and save us. Lord, come and save.
Verses:
It is he who keeps faith for ever.
Faithful to the ones who are oppressed.
It is he who gives bread to the hungry
The Lord who sets prisoners free.
The Lord gives sight to the blind.
The Lord raises up those bowed down.
Strangers, widows and orphans, those the Lord will protect.
It is the Lord who loves the just.
It is the Lord who thwarts the wicked.
The Lord will reign for ever,
Zion's God from age to age.
