Responsorial Psalms are ancient songs of praise and prayer and are an important and often musical part of the Liturgy of the Word in the Catholic Mass. The root of the word 'psalm' is Greek for 'songs sung to a harp.' Many of the 150 psalms in the Old Testament Book of Psalms are attributed to David.
Typical implementations involve the accompanist playing an introduction (usually the refrain), the cantor sings the refrain, followed by the assembly singing the refrain a third time. Then the verse, refrain, verse, refrain cycle is repeated until there are no more verses.

| Psalm 128 Refrain:
Blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways [2x].
Verses:
Happy are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways.
By the labors of your own hands you shall eat and prosper.
Your wife like a fruitful vine in the heart of your home.
Your children like the olive shoots around your table.
Indeed, thus shall be blest, the man who fears the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life!
And may you see your children's children, in a happy Jerusalem!
